Plumbing costs — guidance, not a quote
Plumbing work is priced after an on-site look at access, pipe material and urgency. These factors move the cost up or down.

What drives the cost
- Urgency: emergency after-hours versus scheduled daytime work.
- Access: slab leaks, wall cavities, crawl spaces and multi-storey stacks.
- Pipe material: copper, PEX, PVC, galvanised or cast iron.
- Parts: fixtures, valves, water heaters and specialty fittings.
- Drain vs supply: clearing a blockage versus opening walls for a leak.
- Permits or inspections when required by local rules.
- Gas work needing a separately licensed specialist.
Insurance
Whether and how much your insurer or landlord policy pays depends on the contract and the cause (sudden burst versus long-term wear). Photograph damage, shut off water if safe and request a written scope before work begins.
Why there is no price list here
Two jobs that look similar in photos can need very different access and parts, so any fixed price would be guesswork. Official water and plumbing guidance is linked below.
